Erika Carrasco is a litigator with experience in emerging technology issues in various industries including insurance, construction, and energy. Erika has achieved success for her clients at all levels of Court in Alberta. Erika's practice includes providing risk management advice to her clients to help them minimize the likelihood of future disputes that disrupt their business operations. More recently, she has focused a significant part of her practice on helping clients navigate the dynamic legal, business and insurance landscape of emerging technologies, including drones, autonomous vehicles, cyber security and other developing technologies. Erika's interest in new technology led to her establishing and leading the firm's Emerging Technology group with a current focus on UAV (drone) law, cyber liability, cryptocurrencies and autonomous vehicles among other things. Erika is one of few lawyers in Canada with litigation experience in these areas. In 2017, she was counsel involved in one of the first convictions and appeals in Canada under the Canadian Aviation Regulations. She is also a well-known and in-demand speaker at insurance, construction and technology events nationally and in the U.S. Value to Clients Erika takes a proactive approach to helping clients overcome legal challenges, both in litigation and in developing risk management strategies to avoid the courtroom altogether. Outside of Work Erika spends as much of her free time as possible traveling around the world so she can hike, surf and scuba dive. She is also committed to serving her profession and the community and is a long standing volunteer for the Canadian Bar Association, University of Calgary Student Legal Assistance, Pro Bono Law Alberta, and Calgary Legal Guidance. With all that she does, you’d never guess that Erika is a busy parent to four children.
